Edison High School Indoor Percussion
2022 Program
- Phases
Join the Edison HS percussion ensemble as they take you through the states
of water. The first movement entitled Ice takes the listener through the cool and
rigid characteristics of ice using arrangements and excerpts from Tchaikovski’s The
Nutcracker. The end of movement contains a celesta solo that portrays the melting
of ice.
In movement two entitled Water, the program becomes smooth and flowing,
using excerpts from Antonio Carlos Jobim’s The Girl from Ipanema. The music
quickens as the water begins to boil into steam and the music climaxes with the
sound of fast-moving steam.
The final movement is entitled Vapor. This segment is frantic and quick,
utilizing excerpts from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee. The music
represents the independent movement of vapor with fast split playing. The show
ends with a huge climax in which the temperature continually rises.
