2023 Fall Season
- Imposter
Captains log, September 16th, 2359; It’s been 2 months since we embarked on this…it’s not even a mission. It’s a nightmare. The regulations say I should have been keeping a log this whole time, but I’ve never been one to follow the regs. Now though…I’m not even sure if I’m going to survive. This record is probably going to be important.
It started small. A burst pipe in the med bay. A cracked screen in navigation. Things go wrong on space ships, it’s a fact of life. We didn’t think anything of it. They were easy to fix, so we took care of the problem and kept flying.
But then the problems started getting worse. We barely stopped an overload in the reactor before it blew us up. Massive blow outs in the electrical grid. These weren’t just wear and tear. This had to be sabotage.
Then it happened. I walked into the weapons locker and found a body. It...he… was my friend…At first I didn’t even see the blood…it blended in with his jumpsuit. He was the kind of guy that could get things for you. A pack of stims. Some contraband booze. Stuff like that. Like that Morgan Freemont guy in that Ancient movie “Shawshank Redemption.†So I nicknamed him after that character and called him “Red.†Now he was gone.
From there it went downhill fast. People started dying left and right. There’s someone killing us. Or something. I can’t be sure, but I don’t think it’s human. It’s some kind of alien. It has some kind of genetic ability that allows it to mimic us. We don’t even know which of us are real and which aren’t. It walks around among us so we don’t even know. And when nobody’s looking…I…I’ve never seen brutality like this…
…Look I don’t know if anyone is ever going to see this, but if you do...and there’s something alive on this ship…BURN IT. That’s not a person! It’s the Thing. Kill it fast or your entire crew…wait what was that?!?! I have to go…it’s in here…
