Christopher Rutt is a versatile musician, educator, and performer originally from Hershey, Pennsylvania. He studied music performance at Duquesne University under Pittsburgh Symphony Principal Horn William Caballero and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Arizona.
Christopher’s drum corps career began with the Cadets of Bergen County, where he performed from 1996 to 1998 before joining Carolina Crown in August of 1999. Highlights of his marching career include performing at the 1996 MLB All-Star Game, the Closing Ceremonies of the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, and winning the 1998 Drum Corps International World Championship.
A founding member of the Tony- and Emmy Award-winning Broadway production BLAST!, Christopher has performed in London’s West End, on Broadway, in two national tours, and at Disney’s California Adventure and EPCOT with Shockwave, BLAST!’s second show.
Alongside his performance career, Christopher has developed an extensive teaching résumé, working with high school music programs across the country. He has contributed to the success of ensembles at Huntington High School (NY), Plymouth-Canton High School (MI)—a 2006 Bands of America Grand Nationals finalist—and Chino Hills High School (CA), a seven-time WGI Percussion Scholastic World Champion.
For nearly a decade, Christopher served as Assistant Director at Townsend Junior High School in Chino Hills, CA, where he helped build a vibrant and well-rounded music program. Working alongside his wife, Anne, Director of Bands, he assisted with ensembles including Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Indoor Drumline, Parade Marching Band, and Color Guard. Under their leadership, these groups consistently earned superior ratings at festivals and placed among the top ensembles in regional competitions—including the Indoor Drumline achieving the highest score ever at the 2025 SCPA PSJ Finals.
Christopher is also an experienced adjudicator, with more than ten years of service to organizations such as USBands, the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative (VMBC), the California State Band Championships (CSBC), the Southern California Percussion Alliance (SCPA), the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC), and Winter Guard International (WGI).
In the summer of 2025, Christopher and his wife, Anne, along with their cat Sasha, relocated from Southern California to Northern Virginia. Anne now serves as the Visual Performing Arts Coordinator for Stafford County Public Schools. Together, they enjoy camping, traveling, and are eager to explore new adventures on the East Coast.
