
Kyle Norris is an Associate Director of Bands at Vandegrift High School in Austin, Texas.
Kyle is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma State University and earned degrees in Music Education and Horn Performance. After graduation, he moved to Austin and taught at Covington Middle School in Austin ISD and at Cedar Park Middle School in Leander ISD.
In his fifth year at Vandegrift, Kyle has worked with all four concert bands, the marching band, and multiple chamber ensembles. His concert bands have received consistent Superior ratings at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contests. During his time at Vandegrift, the marching band has received the UIL State Marching Contest Silver Medal twice and the Gold Medal twice. They have also received 1st place at the BOA San Antonio Super Regional as well as numerous awards at local and regional marching competitions. Under his direction, the Vandegrift Symphonic Band received a 2024 Citation of Excellence award from the Foundation for Music Education.
In the drum corps arena, Kyle’s experience includes performing as a mellophone player with the 2013 and 2015 Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. He is currently on the brass staff at Carolina Crown and helped lead the hornline to a Jim Ott High Brass Award in 2023. He previously taught on the brass staff at the Legends Drum and Bugle Corps.
Kyle is an active leadership clinician for SASI, facilitating student leadership workshops across Texas. He is also an active music designer/arranger for marching bands in multiple classifications in the state. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association. He currently resides in Leander, Texas with his wife, Kat, and their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Gus.
