
Anthony Smith started in Drum Corps at age thirteen with the Boston Crusaders under DCI Hall of Famer and percussion innovator Gerry Shellmar. While marching with Boston he started teaching and writing percussion locally at age sixteen, going on to teach, compose and judge percussion nationally. Later, Mr. Smith would turn his attention and talents to Visual Design and Programing.
As a Visual Designer and Consultant Anthony has worked with the Boston Crusaders, Crossmen, New York Skyliners, Hawthorne Caballeros and Concord Blue Devils and the National Champion Blackstone H.S. marching Band. Anthony has won eleven dci titles, seven of which were undefeated seasons while working with the Blue Devils. One of the true innovators in the World of Drum Corps and Pageantry Arts. Mr. Smith is a member of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame, The Massachusetts Drum Corps Hall of Fame and a charter member of the Boston Crusaders Hall of Fame. For fourteen seasons Tony has served as the Visual Caption Chairman for DCA and played a key role in developing the all new DCA adjudication system. Anthony worked on the new visual education presentation as an advisor for DCI. Mr. Smith has judged for DCI, DCA, BOA, NESBA, MAC and US Bands and has been very active with Indoor and Field pageantry for several years as an adjudicator and keynote speaker for numerous Programing and Design clinics. For the past twenty-years Anthony has served as a Visual Design Consultant and Drill Designer for The World Champion Concord Blue Devils.
Mr. Smith has taught Retail Store Planning, Design and Visual Merchandising at The Rhode Island School of Design and Harvard Graduate School of Design. As a professional member of The Institute of Store Planners Anthony has developed and judged national college level Store Design contests. Anthony established his own design company in 1976 specializing in retail store design, marketing and corporate identity. Mr. Smith has successfully completed over
one thousand design projects worldwide, while winning numerous
Design Awards.
