
Erik Lynch is in his 24th year as Director of Bands at Verona High School, where he leads the Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Chamber Winds, and the Music Theory program. In fall of 2024, Mr. Lynch completed his final year as director of the Verona Marching Maroon & White, overseeing the band through two All State Championships, one State Championship, two Cadets Awards of Excellence, and in fall of 2023, the Marching Maroon & White was the Bands of America Group A Regional Champion. Verona’s Concert Band have played at Carnegie Hall, Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and have made multiple appearances at the New Jersey State Gala Concert and the Rutgers Mid-Atlantic Wind Band Festival, while commissioning David Gillingham’s Organic Matter & Bruce Yurko’s Anorev Fanfare.
A graduate of Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, Mr. Lynch completed his undergraduate studies in Music Education with a percussion emphasis, as a Naumburg Scholarship Recipient. He continued his studies at Rutgers University with a Masters in Music Education, and a K-12 Supervisor Certificate. He also studied for two summers at the Eastern Music Festival and one summer at Tanglewood with Vic Firth.
Mr. Lynch is the co-founder of the New Jersey Marching Band Director’s Association and the Essex County Honor Band. He was a finalist for Yale University’s and The College of New Jersey’s Distinguished Music Educator Award, in addition to being nominated four times for the Grammy Music Education Award, where he is currently a legacy quarterfinalist. His theory pedagogy has a feature chapter in Oxford University Press’ book Teaching Music Theory: New Voices.
Mr. Lynch is a freelance percussionist/timpanist and currently section percussionist in the New York Repertory Orchestra. He is currently enrolled in the Doctoral of Music Arts program in Music Education at Rutgers.
