Larry Lashley

Larry Lashley is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and a 1998 graduate of Southwood High School. His passion for music and teaching began at an early age, fueled by the inspiration and support he received from dedicated band directors who played a pivotal role in shaping his future.

He received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and graduated with honors. He also received multiple scholarships, including the Leon Anderson Memorial Scholarship, the Music Forum of Shreveport Scholarship, the Roger Frisbie Memorial Scholarship, the Roger Foss Memorial Scholarship, and the honor of being voted Best Music Major by his peers. He was Drum Major for the ULM Sound of Today marching band for 4 years, and served as principal flute for the ULM Wind Ensemble for 3 years. Other honors include winning the Monroe Symphony Young Artists Concerto Competition in 1999 and marching with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps in 2001. Larry received a Master's degree in Music from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he was a nominee for the Richard G. Neiheisel Memorial Graduate Award.

Performance continues to be an important part of Larry’s musical life. He has been a member of the Monroe Symphony Orchestra since 2000 and has also performed with the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and the Rapides Symphony Orchestra.
Larry has been a music educator in Ouachita Parish for 19 years. He has taught at Ouachita Junior High School, Ouachita Parish High School, and is currently at East Ouachita Middle School. His bands have consistently received high accolades, achieving multiple sweepstakes at District Performance Assessments. Larry serves as Vice President for the District One Band Directors Association, and is currently the adjunct flute instructor at Grambling State University.

Larry enjoys woodworking and spending time with his wife of 20 years, Renee, and their two sons, Thomas and William, who share his passion for music.
