
M. Gregory Martin received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Music degree from James Madison University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin where he studied conducting with Jerry F. Junkin. He is the retired Associate Director of Bands and Professor of Music Education at West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Prior to his time at WCU, Dr. Martin was Director of Athletic Bands and Associate Director of Bands at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Prior to returning to Florida, Dr. Martin was the Assistant Director for the Longhorn Band and Lecturer in the School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin. His past public school teaching experience includes fourteen years in the Florida and Virginia public school systems.
Dr. Martin serves extensively as a guest clinician / conductor and adjudicator throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Europe and has published a book Marching Band Techniques: A Guide to the Successful Operation of a High School Band Program. He has also presented clinics at the Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association conference, the College Band Director’s National Association National Convention, the CBDNA Athletic Band Summer Conference and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Convention. He was a member of the staffs of Suncoast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps and Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corp serving on both as a visual tech, visual caption head and program coordinator. The West Chester University Wind Symphony under his direction has performed at the 2015 and 2023 PMEA state conventions and at the 2020 CBDNA Divisional Convention in Philadelphia. Dr. Martin is a member of the College Band Director’s National Association, National Band Association, National Association for Music Education, World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.
