James Miculka

James Miculka completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Mary's University, his Master of Education in Leadership from The University of Texas at San Antonio, and his Master's In Trumpet Performance from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. In addition, he holds Texas Certifications in Supervision, Principalship, and Superintendent. James is currently in his 49th year of education currently serving as the Director of Fine Arts in Northside Independent School District, San Antonio, Texas. NISD is the 4th largest school district in Texas, with a student fine arts enrollment of 88,000 participating students.

His career in Northside ISD at John Marshall HS, includes 12 consecutive years of University Interscholastic League Sweepstakes Awards in Marching, Concert, and Sight-reading, 5 (MBA) Marching Bands of America Regional Finalist/Championship Awards, 4 UIL Texas State Marching Championship "Finalist Awards", Tournament of Roses Parade, 2 Governor's Cup Awards for Excellence, 2 National Band Championships, Mid-West Clinic Concert Invitation, President of The United States Public School Jazz Ambassador to Asia and South America, and Awards of Excellence for performance from the President of The United States Olympic Team and The United States Marine Band, Col. John Bougeois/Conductor.

James is a founding member the Texas Music Administrators Association (now Texas Fine Arts Administrators Association) and holds membership in all Texas Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Jazz professional organizations. He has served on two Texas Music Curriculum Writing Teams, 2 state UIL music selection committees, and one state UIL adjudication committee. He is a member of IAJE, and has impacted the expansion of jazz studies in NISD middle and high school curriculums. He holds membership in Texas Music Educators' Association, Texas Bandmaster's Association, Phi Beta Mu Alpha Chapter (International Bandmaster's Fraternity), Phi Delta Kappa, and is an active state and national clinician and adjudicator, having worked in 22 states nation-wide. James is a 5th generation professional trumpet artist, and is still performing locally and in his church.

James is married to his wife Cheryl, Broker/Owner of Exit Premier Real Estate. They have two children, Eric and Elise, and 6 grandchildren.
