
Dean Payne, Murfreesboro Tennessee
Dean Payne has been involved in actively teaching the pageantry arts for over
thirty years. Beginning his color guard career with the WGI Gold medalist
Hillwood Pizazz in 1986, he went on to participate in the McGavock High School
Winter Guard. Dean took his skills to the World Class level as a member of The Pride of Cincinnati Winter Guard before moving into a career of teaching.
Starting in 1992 with the McGavock High School marching band, Dean has continued to teach programs throughout the mid-south and Tennessee. He was able to work with programs that went on to become Bands of America finalists, WGI Finalists, and WGI Medalists.
Dean’s career as a drill designer, program coordinator, color guard director and consultant provided him the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors for the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit for multiple years. Dean is deepening his career and experience within the pageantry now as a member of the judging community. He has adjudicated for the Gulf Coast Judges association, Carolina Winter Ensemble Association, Winter Guard Association of Southern California, US Bands, and various marching arts competitions throughout the country.
Dean currently resides in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife Marea and fur baby,
Lily. When he is not judging or designing for performing arts organizations, he is a design supervisor for a local specialty home and flooring store.
