Joe Pruitt

Joe Pruitt is a native of the Texas Panhandle. Joe received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from West Texas State University/West Texas A&M, respectively where he studied with Dr. Gary Garner. He began his teaching career in 1987. Joe retired in the spring of 2022 after a 35-year teaching career. His last 26 years were spent in Fort Bend ISD, Sugar Land, TX. After moving to the Houston area, Joe had the opportunity to gain experience from Eddie Green and Tom Bennett, both retired Directors of Bands from the University of Houston.

While in Fort Bend, he served as assistant director at Dulles Middle School and head director at Lake Olympia Middle School. The last 18 years were spent as the Director of Bands/Fine Arts Department Chair at Dulles High School. Bands under Pruitt’s direction received consistent division I ratings in both UIL Marching and Concert and Sight-reading. His bands advanced to the UIL Area Marching Contest as well as the state TMEA Honor Band Finals. Joe had the honor of conducting at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago with the Dulles Middle School Honor Band (1998) and Symphony Orchestra (2000) as well as the Dulles High School Symphony Orchestra (2004). In 2004, he traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he served as guest conductor for the Mont’ Kiara Music Festival. Pruitt is a member of Phi Beta Mu Honorary Band Fraternity, Texas Bandmasters’ Association, Texas Music Adjudicators’ Association, and the Texas Music Educators’ Association.

Joe resides in Sugar Land, TX where he is an active adjudicator and clinician.
