
Dr. Alexander Casimiro teaches music at Southern Connecticut State University. He received his D.M.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, M.M. from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has performed with the symphony orchestras of Austin, Omaha, Hartford, New Haven, Round Rock, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Wallingford, Bridgeport, and Springfield, in addition to Ballet Austin, Hartford Chorale, Yale Glee Club, Yale School of Drama, Menuhin International Violin Competition, and the U.S. Coast Guard Band. Some notable performances include concerts with Aretha Franklin, Ben Folds, Kansas, Irish Tenors, Joffrey Ballet, and the world premier of Stuart Saunders Smith’s Drum Set Suite. Alex has previously held teaching appointments at Duke University, University of New Haven, and Creighton University.
Casimiro has taught or arranged for a variety of marching ensembles including the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps, University of Massachusetts Amherst, University of Nebraska at Omaha, University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, Duke University, University of New Haven, and Yale University. He was the writer and instructor for the Trash Tones percussion group at Six Flags New England for fifteen years, while also having been an original cast member.
Alex has been a member of numerous competitive marching ensembles including the Cadets (‘08-’09), Madison Scouts (‘06), Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble (‘05), Spartans (‘04-’05), Targets (‘03), and Silver Knights (‘01-’02). During his undergraduate degree, Alex performed in the UMass Minuteman Marching Band under the direction of George Parks, Thomas Hannum, and Colin McNutt, and served as the section leader of the UMass drumline from the spring of his freshman year through senior year.
Alex is a frequent adjudicator and clinician for organizations such as USBands, MAC, NESBA, WGASC, Music in the Parks, Fantastic Festivals, and Great East Music Festivals. He has taught numerous percussion clinics throughout the United States, Portugal, and Brazil.
Alex Casimiro has studied with Dr. Thomas Burritt, Dr. Tomm Roland, Ayano Kataoka, Thomas P. Hannum, Tony Edwards, Ken Yoshida, Dana Murray, Wayne Salzmann II, and Ian Hale. He is a member of the Percussive Arts Society Marching Percussion Committee and endorses Pearl Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets, and Remo Drumheads.
