Steve has been involved in the marching arts since 1973 when he marched in his first parade in his junior high school marching band. In 1974 he joined his first drum corps, The Keswick Coachmen and was teaching brass by 1977. He also marched in the Cardinals of Precious Blood in 1978 and finally with the Oakland Crusaders in 1979 and 1980.

He then moved from Toronto to Las Vegas to attend UNLV and marched in the UNLV "Showband of the Stars".

Upon returning to Toronto, Steve started teaching visual and colorguard to the reformed Oakland Crusaders. In 1987 he joined the staff of Phantasia winterguard from Cambridge, Ontario and also taught local groups in the Western New York area.

In 1990 Steve started to judge winterguard in New York and Ontario, and then marching band and drum corps.

Steve relocated to the Dallas / Fort Worth area in 1995, and he started to judge for TCGC and then NTCA. He joined the colorguard staff at Flower Mound High School, then became the colorguard director at Keller High School from 2008 until 2018, and later at Richland High School. He's also designed and consulted with several other winterguards in the North Texas area.

In his professional life, Steve is a product manager at a large technology company that provides products for the aviation industry.
