Mike Lewis

Mike Lewis has been a music educator in Texas for 46 years. For the last 16 years he has been a judge for USBands. He has judged for the University Interscholastic League in Texas (UIL) for 25 years. He is the retired Head Band Director and Fine Arts Supervisor for the Burnet CISD in Burnet, Texas. Bands under his direction were awarded First Divisions in UIL Region marching competitions 24 times. His bands were consistent UIL Area qualifiers in Texas class 3A and 4A. Marching bands under his direction advanced to the UIL Texas State Marching Competition 5 times. Mr. Lewis is a popular clinician and judge with both marching and concert bands, sharing his insights across the US.
While in college Mr. Lewis twice served as the president of the College Student Section of the Texas Music Educator’s Association. Mr. Lewis studied instrumental music education at Howard Payne University and Wayland Baptist University where he received his Bachelor degree in 1980. He earned a Masters of Science degree from East Texas A & M University in 1990. He served on the staff of the Howard Payne University Band Leadership Camp in various leadership and teaching roles for 19 years.
The Masonic Lodge presented him with the “Marabou B. Lamar” award in 1999. In 2001 Rotary International named Mr. Lewis a “Paul Harris Fellow.” In 2010 he was named the “Outstanding Educator of the Year” for the Burnet CISD. In 2021 he was inducted into the Burnet CISD "Hall of Honor."
Mr. Lewis is a member of Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB), Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA), and the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA).
Mike serves as the worship leader for his church in Burnet. He and his wife Judy have been married for 42 years and have two adult sons.
