
Michael Fanelli was on a performance scholarship and is a Cum Laude graduate of New Jersey City University (formerly Jersey City State College) receiving a BA in Music Education in 1978. During this time he served as principal clarinetist for the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Orchestra and studied with Mr. David Dworkin of the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Mr. Fanelli received his Principal’s Certificate and an MA in Secondary School Administration from Rowan University (formerly Glassboro State College).
Mr. Fanelli has previously served as Director of Bands at South Brunswick and Immaculata High Schools in central NJ. He has also served as the director of the Golden Knights Drum and Bugle Corps of Roselle, NJ and the Historic Village of Smithville Summer Band in Galloway Twp., NJ. For twenty eight of his last thirty six years in education he served as Director of Bands at Absegami High School in Galloway Twp., New Jersey. Under his directorship the Marching Braves won the following awards: Nine Tournament of Bands Chapter One and New Jersey State Championships (1991 and 1998-2005), The 1998 and 2002 TOB Group 3 Atlantic Coast Championships, The 2006 and 2007 USSBA Group 4 Central Jersey Regional Championships, The 2008 USSBA Group 4 Southern Jersey Regional Championship, The 2007 and 2008 USSBA New Jersey State Championships, and the 2006 USSBA Group 4 National Championship.
Mr. Fanelli has been a member of the New Jersey Music Educators Association and the South Jersey Band and Orchestra Directors Association and has served as an adjudicator for Drum Corps Associates, Performing Arts Consultants and Tournament of Bands. He was the conductor of the 2000 All South Jersey Junior High Region Band and the 2007 All South Jersey High School Symphonic Band. He is currently a member of and has guest conducted the Atlantic County Pops Symphonic Band in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
