
Mr. Niebergall graduated from Fort Hunt High School in Fairfax County, Virginia, having had the nationally renowned Frank Wickes as his band director. Subsequently, Mr. Niebergall attended Tennessee Technological University (TN) where he was awarded a scholarship to study Music Composition with the award-winning and well-known composer, Robert Jager. He then transferred to James Madison University (VA) where he earned a Cum Laude Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance (Theory & Composition). After several years of working in the music publishing and recording industry, Mr. Niebergall obtained his Music Education certification from George Mason University (VA).
Mr. Niebergall taught for twenty years for the Arlington County (Virginia) Public Schools. In 2004 he accepted the Director of Bands position at Potomac Falls High School, in Loudoun County, Virginia. As Director of Bands his ensembles consistently earned excellent and superior ratings at competitions and festivals. His ensembles have performed in Europe, Canada, as well as in eleven states and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Niebergall is a past president of Phi Mu Alpha, Gamma Alpha chapter (JMU), past president of the JMU Music Students Association, 1980 Outstanding Music Student Award (JMU), recipient of the Charles E. Lutton Award, recipient of the 1991 McDonalds Teacher of the Year in the Washington Metropolitan Region, nominated for 1992 Arlington County Teacher of the Year, and former Executive Board for the Atlantic Indoor Association. Mr. Niebergall is a member of Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Beta Mu, ASCAP, ASMAC, NAfME, NBA, VMEA, and VBODA. He is also an active adjudicator and guest conductor having served in West Virginia, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. He has served as chief judge for the Washington Cherry Blossom Parade for seven years (1993-1999). His ensembles have performed at the Schlesinger Center outside Washington DC, Meyerhof Hall in Baltimore, the Verizon Center Concert Hall in Philadelphia, St. Johns Church in New York City, and his Symphonic Band was selected as one of 23 bands from across the United States to perform at the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In 2020 Mr. Niebergall retired from full-time teaching and now spends his time arranging, tutoring, adjudicating and serving as a clinician while also enjoying a more relaxed schedule. Learn more at www.TimSignatureMusic.com.
