Dr. Jimmy Nowell

Dr. Jimmy Nowell, a Corpus Christi native, has an extensive background in fine arts and education. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University, a Master of Music Performance degree from Rice University, and both a Master and Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston. As a former Drum Major at Baylor and an accomplished trombonist, Dr. Nowell has performed with Rice University's Shepherd School of Music Symphony Orchestra and various other ensembles across Texas.

Dr. Nowell has served in several Texas school districts, including Pasadena, Cypress-Fairbanks, Pearland, and New Caney ISDs. His marching bands have consistently excelled, advancing to the UIL Texas State Marching Championships three times, including with the Porter Spartan Marching Band in 2019 and 2021, the latter winning the UIL Area I 5A Marching Championship.

Currently, Dr. Nowell is adjunct faculty in the College of Education at Sam Houston State University and is an active clinician and consultant. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including TMEA, TBA and TASA. Beyond his professional life, Dr. Nowell enjoys spending time with his dog, Jax, and is an enthusiastic cook known for his smoked ribs.
