
Gretchen Shyne (Bethlehem, NY) has been a member of the New York Federation of Contest Judges since 1998, judging both winter color guard and competitive marching band contests. She taught the Shenendehowa Varsity Winterguard (2007 & 08 High School World Class Finalists, 2006 HSO WGI Silver Medalists) from 1996 through 2011. She was on the color guard teaching staff with the Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corp from 2004-2007, and a performing member in 2002 & 2003. Prior to that she was a marching member with the Hawthorne Caballeros Color Guard in 1997. She was a performing member and color guard instructor for the Rochester Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corp from 1993-1996. She was the Director for the Union-Endicott High School and Middle School Winter Guard program from 1986-1996, where she was also front group coordinator and then assistant marching band director. She was a performing member of the Sunriser Drum and Bugle Corp Color Guard in 1988 and 1990. She taught the color guards of the Cicero North Syracuse Marching Band (1994-95) and Liverpool Marching Band (1987-88). She began her Winter Color Guard teaching career with the Canandaigua Academy Winter Guard (1985-86). She was a performing member with the Loyal Order Independent Winter Color Guard and with the Liverpool High School Winter Guard.
Other Marching Arts instructional experience includes instructing the Cicero-North Syracuse Marching Band (winds and movement) 1993-1995, the Susquehanna Valley Marching Band (1990), The Bluecoats Junior Drum and Bugle Corp. (1989), The Liverpool High School Marching Band (1986-1989 & 1991), the Northman Drum and Bugle Corp (1985-86) and the Canandaigua Academy Marching Band (1985-86).
Related Performing experience includes baritone bugle with the Sunrisers Drum and Bugle Corp (1989 & 1991), The Garfield Cadets (1984-85), The Eagles of CNY Drum and Bugle Corp (1982-83), the Sounds of CNY Drum and Bugle Corp (1980), baritone horn with the Liverpool High School Marching Band (1978-81) and the Liverpool American Legion Post 188 Marching Band (1976-1982).
She has a Bachelor of Music (1986) and a Master of Arts (1991) as a music education major from the Eastman School of Music and was an instrumental music teacher in New York State for twenty-four years.
