• Dave Pickett holds two undergraduate degrees, which he earned simultaneously, from Western Michigan University with majors in Music Education and Business Administration. His Master’s degree is from Michigan State University in the field of Percussion Pedagogy (the teaching of percussion methods.)

• Dave has been an active member of The International Percussive Arts Society since 1989.
• He is recognized internationally as a clinician, adjudicator, teacher and performer of all percussion instruments and musical styles
• Former Assistant Director of Bands at Stevenson High School Sterling Heights, MI, Utica School District
• Currently assists as the staff Percussion Specialist for the Romeo School District, Romeo, MI, the Chippewa Valley Schools in Clinton Twp, MI; the New Haven School District in New Haven, MI
• Dave has written and instructed the music book, the percussion book and / or designed the drill program for over 175 different high school bands across the US since 1985
• In 1999, he created his own business, DPMusic-Total Percussion; where he teaches, writes music and presents educational and motivational clinics for students and educators of all levels across the US from coast to coast.
• Dave is active as a Motivational Facilitator and Wellness Instructor of Drum Circles for corporate clients as well as for schools and senior citizen groups
• In 2008 Dave was inducted into the highly selective organization, ‘The Guild of Professional Drum Teachers’
• He has been on the education team with Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets Corporation for 21 years.
• Dave holds Endorsement/Sponsorship contracts with: Vic Firth Sticks & Mallets; Zildjian Cymbals; Kori Marimba; Remo World Percussion and Dynasty Drums
• He has performed concerts, clinics and adjudicated music ensembles in over 30 different states and 4 countries
• Dave began teaching marching techniques and designing marching drills during his first year in college.
• He has judged visual and music programs for DCA, DCI, WGI, USBands, MAPS, SCPA, RMPA, IPA, KIDA, TMEA & IHSMA
• He has judged for the Michigan Competing Band Association and the Michigan Color Guard Circuit (for both color guard and percussion) for over 30 years.
• Dave has judged WGI Indoor Percussion World Championships for 14 years as an Effect Visual Percussion judge.
• In 2013 Dave judged Percussion on the field at the Preliminary competition of the Drum Corps Associates, World Championships.
• In 2014 & 2018, 2019 Dave judged Overall Effect at the USBands National Championships, for marching bands
• His greatest accomplishment is that he is a proud father of 3 wonderful young men who are great musicians, leaders and wonderful human beings! 12/2020
