
Ben Schwartz has been a Music Adjudicator with USBands since 2006. A veteran educator, he has been a music teacher in New Jersey for 23 years, formerly the director of bands at Lakewood High School and Elizabeth High School. A gifted musical arranger, Ben has written wind and percussion scores for Marching & Pageantry Arts ensembles across the country for over 25 years, including South Brunswick High School, Elizabeth High School, Pride of the North (University of North Dakota), Paradise Honors High School (Arizona), Herndon High School (Virginia), Booker High School (Florida), Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps, Fusion Core Drum Core, and the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps.
A professional drummer and pianist, Ben performs regularly in the NJ/NYC area. He also won the Drum Corps Associates I&E Drum Set competition 3 times in 2006, 2009, and 2010. In 2012, Ben represented New Jersey in School, Band, and Orchestra Magazine as one of the "50 Directors Who Make a Difference" and was awarded the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction in 2019. He holds a B.M. in Music Education from Mason Gross School of the Arts, an M.A. in Music Education from New Jersey City University, as well as a Supervisor Certificate. Additionally, he also adjudicates for New Jersey Marching Band Directors Association and previously for Cavalcade of Bands and Drum Corps Associates.
He currently teaches Music Technology in the Newark Public Schools, and resides in Woodbridge Township, NJ with his wife and two children.
