David Walker

David is an active composer, arranger, sound designer, educator, and adjudicator residing in Waco, Texas. A native of Tennessee, David has been around music his entire life, and brings a wide range of experiences to each group he interacts with. He has directed the Baylor Drumline, as well as serving on staff for the Spirit of Atlanta as Ensemble Coordinator, as well as front ensemble and percussion ensemble educator. As ensemble coordinator, David planned and ran rehearsals for the full drum corps rehearsals. As a percussion educator, David served as percussion caption lead at the end of the seasons he was with the drum corps.

Prior to freelance work in 2018, David served as assistant band director/percussion director for Southlake Carroll HS. His indoor percussion ensemble medaled in the NTCA every year of its existence, including the first percussion championship in the history of the school, as well as regional medalists twice (Mid-South Super Regional and Houston). Southlake Carroll also saw the largest growth in participation in the competitive all-region process in the school’s history. Under David’s direction, the Carroll percussion section put together the first district-wide percussion ensemble concerts, encompassing works from 6th graders, all the way to the collegiate literature of David Maslanka, Dave Hall, and Eric Ewazen. David also conducted a UIL concert band, which was a frequent superior-rated ensemble. David was also a Carroll Education Foundation Grant winner, presenter at the District Day of Learning, and Teacher of the Month.

David holds a Bachelor's in Music Education, as well as a Bachelor’s of Science in Spanish from Middle Tennessee State University, and a Master’s degree in Percussion Performance from Texas Christian University. While at Texas Christian University, David participated in the 2011 PASIC IPEC championship ensemble, as well as playing in Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, and assisting the marching band for the Rose Bowl Parade and Rose Bowl game.

David has extensive experience in a wide range of ensembles including: salsa band, world ensembles, wind ensembles, orchestra, a Latin pop band, as well as being trained in the art of Byzantine Chant. He has composed for the MTSU wind ensemble, TCU orchestra (winning the concerto competition as a performer with an original composition), as well as percussion ensembles. David was fortunate to have studied with Mr. Lalo Davila, Dr. Andy Smith, Mr. German Baratto, Mr. Tommy Giampietro, Dr. Brian West, Dr. Richard Gipson, Mr. Joey Carter, Mr. Leigh Howard Stevens, as well as composition lessons with Dr. Michael Linton and Dr. Blaise Ferrandino.

David spends his time away from work with his lovely wife Hilary and two children, and training for cycling events.
