Sean McNeal

Sean McNeal has been a performer, educator, arranger, show designer, and adjudicator for over 40 years. He has been immersed in instrumental, orchestral, and vocal music throughout his life in a broad range of styles, genres, and ensembles. He had the great fortune of being instructed by outstanding teachers while in the Mountain Crest Band, including Sheri Manning, Tom Float, and Randall Beach. He then marched with the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps with drill designer George Zingali and then worked on staff with the corps in 1998 alongside Ralph Hardimon and Rob Billings. Sean earned his Bachelor of Music degree at Utah State University in percussion performance and music education while continuing to design, arrange, and instructing a variety of marching and pageantry ensembles. He was the percussion instructor, assistant band director and Director of Bands at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Utah, and Director of Bands at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, CA, where his music and pageantry ensembles earned numerous awards and honors.

Sean has been actively involved as an adjudicator in the marching arts community for over 25 years while continuing to perform with a variety of musical ensembles in the San Francisco Bay area. His marching band and winter percussion judging activities have spanned across the country in a variety of associations, including the Western Band Association, US Bands, the California State Band Championships, Northern California Percussion Alliance, the Utah Percussion Association, Utah Music Educators Association, Colorado Bandmasters Association, SVWAA, SJVCGPR, PPAACC, Arizona Marching Band Association, and multiple other organizations. He currently resides in Mill Valley, CA, and is pursing his doctorate at Oxford University, UK.
